Why is my AC blowing hot air?

Simple Tips for Maintaining Your Air Conditioner

AC Fan

Your air conditioner is meant to keep the house cool, right? Then the last thing you want is for it to start heating up the room.

So, why is the AC blowing warm air? Here are a few things you can do:

  1. Check the thermostat: Is it set to HEAT or the fan set to ON? It seems like a no-brainer, but this can happen more often than you would think. With the fan set to ON, the fan will only blow and circulate the air in the house even if the system isn’t set to COOL. How to fix this? Be sure the thermostat is set to COOL.

  2. Check the outside unit: Your AC needs both an indoor and outside unit to function correctly to suck the hot air out of your home. To function correctly, there needs to be open airflow between the two units. A disruption can occur when something obstructs the outside unit such as overgrown bushes, leaves, or dirt. How to fix this? Take a look at your outside unit and remove anything that might be blocking air flow.

  3. Check if the outside unit’s power is working: If its powered off, the two units will not work together and could be the cause of the hot air. How to fix this? Check your circuit breaker to see if any lines were blown.

If you’ve tried these solutions and the AC is still not working correctly, call us.
